Choosing Peace Over Chaos
10:54 PM.
Tonight, I made a decision that some people might not understand, and honestly, I’m okay with that. My friend kept calling me over and over again, so I blocked her. It wasn’t because I hate her. It wasn’t because I wanted to hurt her. It was because I simply couldn’t take it anymore. Once again, she was accusing me of something involving her boyfriend, and I found myself asking the same question I’ve asked so many times before: Why? Why is it so easy for some people to assume the worst about me? I have enough on my plate already. I’m carrying problems that most people don’t even know about. I’m trying to survive emotionally, mentally, and financially. The last thing I need right now is another person adding more stress to my life over something that shouldn’t even involve me. Lately, I’ve realized that I need to protect my peace more than I need to protect other people’s feelings. I’ve decided to cut off almost everyone for now. Some people will probably call me selfish. Some might think I’ve changed. Others may assume I’m angry with them. But the truth is much simpler than that.
I’m tired.
Not the kind of tired that sleep can fix.
I’m mentally exhausted.
I’m emotionally drained.
I’m overwhelmed.
I wake up every day thinking about how I’m going to rebuild my life. I think about my future, my career, my finances, my dreams, and everything I’m trying to fix. Every day feels like another battle, and I don’t have the emotional capacity to keep carrying other people’s drama on top of my own. Right now, I don’t want conversations that leave me feeling heavier than I did before.
I don’t want endless gossip.
I don’t want unnecessary arguments.
I don’t want accusations.
I don’t want negativity.
I don’t want people constantly bringing me the same problems without ever looking for solutions.
What I need is silence.
Silence gives me room to think.
Silence helps me breathe.
Silence allows me to hear my own thoughts instead of everyone else’s opinions.
For the first time in a long time, I’m choosing to focus on solutions instead of getting stuck in the same cycle of problems. Every time I answer my phone, I feel like someone wants a piece of me.
Someone needs advice.
Someone wants to vent.
Someone wants to argue.
Someone wants answers.
But who’s asking if I’m okay?
Who’s asking how I’m managing everything that’s happening in my own life? Sometimes, protecting yourself means becoming unavailable. And that’s exactly where I am right now. I know people might think I’m avoiding them, but the reality is that I’m trying to save myself. I’ve reached a point where I finally understand that not every friendship is meant to be carried forever. Some people walk into your life for a season, and that’s okay. Holding on to every relationship simply because of history isn’t healthy if those relationships constantly leave you emotionally exhausted. I’ve spent so much time trying to be there for everyone else.
Listening.
Understanding.
Forgiving.
Explaining myself.
Giving people the benefit of the doubt.
But somewhere along the way, I forgot to be there for myself. I’m learning that boundaries are not acts of cruelty. They’re acts of self-respect. Blocking someone doesn’t automatically mean you hate them. Taking space doesn’t mean you’ve stopped caring. Sometimes, distance is the healthiest thing you can give yourself. I don’t owe everyone unlimited access to me just because we’ve known each other for years.
My peace deserves protection too.
I’ve also realized something else.
I’m not the same person I was a few years ago.
I’m getting older.
My priorities are changing.
I’m no longer interested in living a life filled with unnecessary chaos, constant drama, or relationships that leave me emotionally exhausted.
Like… damn.
I’m too old for this.
Life is already difficult enough without people making it even harder. I have dreams that still keep me awake at night. I have places I want to go.
Goals I want to achieve.
A career I want to build.
A better version of myself that I’m slowly becoming.
I want financial stability.
I want independence.
I want peace.
I want a life where I wake up excited about my future instead of anxious about everyone’s expectations. And I know none of that will happen if I continue giving my energy to things that constantly drain me. This season of my life is teaching me that growth sometimes looks lonely. Healing isn’t always surrounded by people cheering you on. Sometimes healing looks like unanswered messages.
Blocked numbers.
Quiet weekends.
Saying “no” without explaining yourself.
Choosing yourself even when people misunderstand your intentions. I know I’m going through another difficult chapter. But I’ve survived every difficult chapter before this one.
I’ve cried before.
I’ve been heartbroken before.
I’ve lost people before.
I’ve failed before.
And somehow, every single time, I found my way back.
So I believe I’ll find my way back again.
Maybe not today.
Maybe not next week.
But eventually, I will.
If I decided to distance myself from people, it’s not because I stopped loving them. It’s because I finally started loving myself enough to recognize what my mind and heart need.
Right now, what I need is peace.
I need clarity.
I need space to think.
I need room to rebuild my life without constant noise pulling me in every direction.
Because at the end of the day, no one else can solve my problems for me. No one else can make the difficult decisions I have to make. No one else can build the future I dream of.
That’s my responsibility.
So for now, I’m choosing peace over pressure.
Growth over guilt.
Boundaries over people-pleasing.
Healing over chaos.
And if that means walking this part of my journey alone, then so be it. Because I’d rather be alone with peace than surrounded by people who leave me feeling emotionally exhausted. It’s just the chapter where I finally stopped trying to save everyone else and started saving myself.
